Losing Fat Quickly...
... And in a Healthy Way
Yes, it’s possible to lose body fat quickly. However, because people have different body types (Mesomorphic, Ectomorphic, and Endomorphic), some may have to work harder than others to achieve this. Look forward to another article soon for more information about these body types and things you can do for your specific shape!
Because each individual is different in not only their body type, but genetic factors, diet, and metabolism, the ability to lose fat will vary between people. However, there is a pretty basic formula which will allow you to lose weight to a degree regardless of what your specific body will need to exponentially lose fat.
You can calculate how long it takes to burn a pound of fat off. There are 3,500 calories stored in every pound of fat on your body, and anyone else’s- this is a fact. When you reduce your caloric intake by 300 to 700 per day, you can expect to lose half a pound to two pounds every week as long as you stick with this diet.
Even though the amount of fat you could lose will depend on many unique factors, you will be able to lose some weight quickly and in a safe manner as well as maintain this loss.
If you try to lose more than this without doing any extra exercise, you may send your body into ‘survival mode’. This means your metabolism will slow WAY down and cause your body to hang on to as much fat as possible, as if you were famished. You can’t lose more than half to two pounds per week in a healthy manner without invoking this response, and if you do you will weaken your body’s ability to lose fat and keep it off.
You must maintain a certain body fat percentage to stay healthy, even if you want to burn off those pounds. Use these as a general guideline, which have been averaged from the most recent statistics...
- Male
- Aged up to 30: 9-15%
- Aged 30 to 50: 11-17%
- Aged 50+: 12-19%
- Female
- Aged up to 30: 14-21%
- Aged 30 to 50: 15-23%
- Aged 50+: 16-25%
As people get older, the body fat percentage increases because they body cannot hold onto as much lean muscle. Therefore, it’s important for women to try to maintain about 13%-20% early in life and 8%-14% for men to avoid potential future health problems. If fat levels are under this for a significant period of time, you may have serious complications.
The dieting and exercise blend is completely up to you, just remember to do it within this healthy range and you will be feeling great and looking great in no time at all!
